Atchison Pushes Through First Snowfall
12/18/2014

(KAIR)--The city of Atchison experienced its first significant snowfall Wednesday night, and city crews were more than ready.

City Public Works and Utilities Director Justin Pregont says the snowfall was pretty basic, with his workers using it as practice for future severe weather. Crews put down some salt brine pretreatment on the major arterial routes and were pushing quite a bit of snow overnight. He says there is still a bit of work to be done, but “It was a relatively easy storm to deal with from our side of things”.

Pregont adds that they did not use much material, so they are in very good shape for the season so far.

City crews also worked a split shift Wednesday, with some workers being sent home at noon to get a full eight hours of rest before coming in later that night to work.
