(KNZA)--A Blair area man facing charges stemming from a vehicle-pedestrian accident last July that injured a Doniphan County woman has entered a guilty plea, avoiding a jury trial that had been set for this week.
50-year-old Dean Cochran entered the plea Monday in Doniphan County District Court to charges of aggravated battery and driving under the influence. In exchange for the plea, a charge of unlawful transportation of an open container of alcohol was dismissed.
Authorities say Cochran was driving a pickup on July 20th of last year when he struck Dee Anna Kelley as she was walking with her daughter on 190th Road in the Blair area. She required hospitalized treatment.
Cochran also pleaded “ no contest” Monday to a charge of DUI in a separate case. That charge was filed after authorities say he showed up intoxicated for a court hearing last September.
Sentencing in both cases is set for March 25th.
Cochran remains in the Doniphan County Jail.
