(KNZA)--The Jefferson County Commission has adopted the 2016 county budget as published, which contains a nearly 1.9 mill levy increase.
Adoption of the budget followed a public hearing this week drawing comments from representatives of the Soil Conservation District on how they use the funds allocated by the county.
County officials attribute the property tax levy increase to a more than 49 percent increase in employee health insurance for 2016 along with an extra pay period next year.
Meanwhile, the Commission this week is interviewing candidates for the emergency management position. The Commission held a special session Tuesday and will hold another Friday to interview candidates in executive session.
