Nebraska Department of Labor

(KLZA)-- Unemployment figures for the six counties that make up the extreme southeast corner of Nebraska all bucked the statewide trend of higher unemployment for the month of August.

Unemployment was lower in Gage, Johnson, Nemaha, Otoe, Pawnee and Richardson counties for August. The highest unemployment rate in the area was 3.6 percent in Nemaha County, the lowest rate was 2.5-percent in Pawnee County.

Elsewhere, Richardson County's jobless rate stood at 3.4-percent; Johnson, 2.7 percent; Otoe, 2.8 percent; and Gage, 3.2 percent.

The August unemployment rate in Nebraska was up a tenth of a point from July to 2.8 percent, which is the lowest rate in the nation.
