(KLZA)-- Repairs and improvements for the Auburn swimming pool have been approved by the City Council.
Monday night the Council on the recommendation of the Parks and Pool Committee approved just over $20,000 in repairs to the slide at the pool. A Kansas City Company will be doing the work to the slide that is around 20 years old.
The Council also approved a splash pad for the pool area on the recommendation of the Parks and Pool Committee. The cost will be $254,000. The splash pad will re-circulate water and will require a licensed operator on site when it is used, just like the pool.
Mayor Scott Kudrna cast the deciding vote to move forward with the splash pad breaking a 3-3 tie among Council members.
Mayor Kudrna says it is possible that smaller splash pad features could be installed in other areas such as the Rec Complex later on.
Another big ticket item was also approved Monday night. The Auburn Council approved specifications and advertising for bids for a new pumper truck for the Auburn Volunteer Fire Department. Bids will be accepted through November 30th. $250,000 has been budgeted for the truck with the price tag expected to come in at around $270,000.
Hopes are to sell the current pumper truck to pay for the difference.
