Atchison Library Readies For Renovations
10/13/2015

(KAIR)--Staff at the Atchison Library are hard at work preparing the building for a renovation project, the first since 1985.

Library Director Gary Landeck says the renovations will take place in the library's lower level on the south end, and will include a new children's library and that “the big thing is going to be just really addressing that space downstairs, that space will be really opened up...new paint, new carpet, new lighting...LED lighting. So it will just be a brighter space. The main focal point will be kind of a circular circulation desk. We will have all of the books that we have had before...wireless technology, we are continually upgrading our technology downstairs.  So nothing really flashy. It's going to be a pretty modest renovation, but it's going to be nice, and be really exciting to have people visit.”

Landeck adds the project will be funded primarily through private donations and “money we have cobbled together in our capital improvement fund over the last fifteen or twenty years.”

Landeck says the project is scheduled to get underway on November 15th, and will take about four months. The lower south end of the building will be closed off during construction, but the current children's library and the upstairs portion of the library will remain open.
