Atchison Plans Possible Parking Lot Improvements
11/29/2015
(KAIR)--The city of Atchison is making plans to possibly improve some parking lots in the city.

City Manager Trey Cocking says “we have all these parking lots. Some of the parking lots are heavily used, some of the parking lots are kind of used, but we are talking about if the right proposal came along, we would consider redeveloping one of those parking lots”.

Cocking adds that any potential proposal will be judged using a set of five criteria set by city staff, saying that “number one is the overall benefit to the citizens of Atchison. Number two is the improvement of the quality of life in downtown and throughout the city. Number three is we want a design that is consistent with the current look and feel of downtown. Number four is the anticipated impact on current business owners, and number five is the overall financial benefit to the city”.

Cocking says the city would likely look at parking lots that are seldom used when deciding which ones to redevelop.

The city of Atchison is working with Atchison county to put together a new neighborhood revitalization plan, and Cocking says the potential parking lot improvements are part of that plan.
