(KAIR)--A report of an unconscious man aboard a scooter sends authorities to the scene and the driver first to a hospital and then to jail.
According to Atchison County Sheriff Jack Laurie, it happened Wednesday morning, around 8:30, at U.S. Highway 73 and 230th Road, where the scooter, driven by 45-year-old Brian Carpenter, of Independence, Missouri, had apparently broken down.
A passerby, believing Carpenter to be unconscious, notified the Sheriff's Office.
Laurie says a Deputy responded, and Carpenter was transported from the scene by EMS to the Atchison Hospital. "He didn't really come to until he got to the hospital, so we don't know if he may have been intoxicated prior to [going unconcious], but there was no accident or anything like that. He was basically asleep."
Laurie says the Deputy, during the encounter, located what's believed to be methamphetamine and paraphernalia in Carpenter's pocket.
When he was released from hospitalized treatment, Carpenter was arrested on charges related to the discovery, and booked into the Atchison County Jail.
