(KNZA)-- An area northeast Kansas police chief has pleaded not guilty to a misdemeanor charge of disseminating criminal history information.
The Topeka Capital Journal reports that Valley Falls Police Chief Bronson Campbell entered the plea Thursday in a Dickinson County courtroom.
The complaint alleges that between Feb. 7 and March 24, 2014, Campbell disseminated criminal history information, or requested such information from the central repository of another criminal justice agency, without a legitimate need for the information.
The alleged crime took place while Campbell was serving as police chief of Enterprise, Kansas.
Campbell held that position from April 2013 until May 2014 when his re-appointment was denied.
He recently ran unsuccessfully in the August 2nd primary election for the Republican nomination for Jefferson County Sheriff against incumbent Jeff Herrig.
