Burglary Case Nets Plea

(KAIR)--Guilty.

That’s the plea entered from one of the men arrested in connection with a rash of burglaries at several Atchison businesses earlier this summer.

22-year-old Atchison resident Devan Newson pleaded guilty to three counts of burglary of a non-dwelling last week in Atchison County District Court.

The burglaries occurred at four different Atchison locations including: King’s Super Store, All American Pawn, Iron Horse BBQ and Nell Hill’s.

However, Newson also entered a plea for an unrelated drug charge during his court appearance.

Newson pleaded guilty to marijuana possession—his second offense.

The amended complaint stems from a May 6 arrest for Newson after his car broke down on U.S. Highway 73 and an Atchison County Sheriff deputy stopped to assist him.

The deputy discovered Newson’s license to be suspended and arrested him. That led to the search of Newson’s vehicle where Atchison County Sheriff Jack Laurie says 15 individual packages of marijuana was discovered.

Newson will learn his sentence in all charges Oct. 3.
