(KAIR)--A St. Joseph man lands behind bars after allegedly running from police and throwing drugs from his pocket.
Atchison Police Chief Mike Wilson said it was 3:00 Saturday afternoon that police officers responded to a residence in the 1400 block of L Street after receiving a call concerning the welfare of a female occupant in the home.
Wilsons said officers were aware of the possible presence of 31-year-old Jackie Busey at the residence and that he was wanted on a number of outstanding warrants.
When officers approached the residence, Busey ran.
Officers followed in a foot pursuit. It was during that chase that officers saw Busey throw drugs from his person, Wilson said.
Officers did apprehend Busey, and further investigation revealed the drugs to be cocaine and marijuana. Busey was arrested for possession of the drugs as well as obstructing legal process.
Additional unrelated charges for Busey include: U.S. Marshall’s Service warrant for probation violation, a Buchanan County warrant for possession of a controlled substance, a St. Joseph detain order for parole violation and failure to appear in court.
Busey was taken to the Atchison County Jail where he remains.
