Disappearance Reaches One-year Anniversary
09/25/2016

(KNZA)--Monday mark's the one anniversary date of the disappearance of Joan Rebar.

Rebar at the time of her disappearance was 70-years-old. Rebar was a resident of Jackson County and resided on the Prairie Band Potawatomi Nation. Rebar spent Friday evening, September 25th, 2015 at the Meriden VFW in Jefferson County.  Rebar is believed to have left the establishment by herself shortly before 2 am on Saturday September 26th.  She had been driving her silver 2005 Chrysler Pacifica bearing Kansas disabled tag 71664. Rebar’s disappearance was reported to law enforcement approximately 5 days later by a friend.

Since that time law enforcement as well as many members of the public have conducted numerous searches for Rebar.  A multi-jurisdictional task force was formed by a number of investigators from the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office, Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, Potawatomi Tribal Police and the Kansas Bureau of Investigations.  A number of state and federal resources have been used in the search for Rebar and the investigation into her disappearance. The Kansas Highway Patrol and the Kansas Department of Wildlife, Parks and Tourism have all been involved in this investigation.

Rebar’s cell phone last pinged on the Meriden cell tower 3 ½ hours after she was last seen.  Rebar’s last cell phone signal indicated that her phone was south of Meriden.   There was no indication that Rebar had returned back to her home on the PBPN Nation.  There was no indication that Rebar intended to leave the area, but there was every indication that she intended on returning home late Friday night or early Saturday morning.  There has been no activity on any of Rebar’s financial accounts since her disappearance.  There is no indication that Rebar disappeared on her own accord.

There have been numerous searches for Rebar.  Individuals on foot, UTVs, ATVs, horses, watercraft with sonar, drones and aircraft have all been used to search for Rebar. The investigation has led to a number of persons of interest in the case, most of which have been cleared at this time.  The family of Rebar have been cooperative in this investigation.  Most friends and associates have been cooperative in taking polygraphs.  Over a hundred individuals have been interviewed in this case.

The taskforce has done a great deal of investigative work in this case.  They have investigated a variety of leads.  Despite having a great deal of media attention, very few leads have come in from the public.  Most of the leads in this case have been developed by the taskforce.  A variety of inquisitions, subpoenas have been issued for records, phone records, banking records, rental vehicles.  A variety of locations have been searched across the United States as well as lakes, ponds, rivers, parking lots, airports and salvage yards to name a few.

The taskforce has received assistance from a number of other entities, a couple are: NICB-National Insurance Crime Bureau and NAMUS-National Missing and Unidentified Persons System.

Due to the circumstances of Rebar’s disappearance, this case is being investigated as a homicide, and will continue as such until there is evidence to the contrary.

Every taskforce member involved in this case prays for a break in this investigation. The taskforce is requesting anyone who has information about the disappearance of Joan Rebar to contact law enforcement immediately. Until now, the family of Joan Rebar has had no answers in regard to her disappearance.  Please, if you have any information about this case call the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office at 785-364-2251 or Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office 785-863-2351 or the PBPN Police Department at 785-966-3024 or your local law enforcement agency.
