Unemployment Down in Area NEK Counties

(MSC News)--Unemployment was down in area northeast Kansas counties in August.

That’s according to the latest report from the Kansas Department of Labor.

Atchison County had the highest unemployment rate at 7.4 percent, while Nemaha County had the lowest at 3 percent.

Brown County’s unemployment rate in August was 4.3 percent; Doniphan, 4.5 percent; Jackson, 4.1 percent; Jefferson, 4.1 percent; Leavenworth, 4.6 percent; Marshall, 3.6 percent and Pottawatomie, 4.1 percent.

The figures were down from July in all but one county, Marshall, which saw its unemployment rate hold steady.  However, the figures were up from August 2015 in all area counties.

Statewide,  the jobless rate in August was 4.3 percent.  That’s up from 4 percent in July and down from 4.1 percent in August 2015.
