Falls City Council Approves Utility Project Expenses
10/19/2016

(KLZA)--It takes lots of money to maintain a city’s infrastructure.

The Falls City Council Monday evening approved recommendations from the Board of Public Works, one to upgrade a water line and another to improve a portion of the city electrical service.

Council members approved the expenditure of $377,500 for upgrades to the electrical service. Utility Superintendent Alan Romine explained the project will help connect both sides of town so power can be fed both ways. Work will be done in the area of North Elementary School and on Stone Street from 17th to 19th Streets, including the service to the Courthouse.

The City has purchased the materials for the job in a cost saving measure. The materials are going to be around $200,000.

The other project is a waterline on Valley Street that has had a substantial number of breaks. The line is a 2-inch sandcast pipe and there are no fire hydrants in the three-block area where the work is to be done. A new 6-inch line will be installed along with some new valves and three fire hydrants will be added.

The expense for engineering, the bidding process and oversight work was quoted by Kirkham Michael Engineers at $31,500. Romine said they did not take bids for the engineering work. He noted the City has a good history with the company including the current water well project at Rulo.
