(MSC News)--Formal charges have been filed against a second teenager in the stabbing death of another teen at a popular St. Joseph park earlier this month.
KQ2-TV reports the 17-year-old girl, whose name isn't been released because of her age, has been charged in Buchanan County Juvenile Court with second-degree murder.
18-year-old Sebastian Dowell, of St. Joseph, also is charged with second-degree murder in the death of 17-year-old Kaytlin Root, whose body was found by a jogger in Krug Park on October 16th.
Both teens were arrested over the weekend.
According to a probable cause affidavit, Dowell and a second individual lured Root to meet them at a location in St. Joseph and urged her not to tell anyone who she was meeting.
The court document says the three rode around for awhile and eventually went to Krug Park. Once there, the document states the three walked to a secluded area where the victim was rendered unconscious.
Root was stabbed and died from her injuries.
No details have been released about the alleged motive for the crime.
Dowell is being held without bond, and is to appear in a Buchanan County courtroom Tuesday afternoon for arraignment.
