(MSC News)--Unemployment was down in area northeast Kansas counties in September from the month before.
According to a report released Friday by the Kansas Department of Labor, Atchison County had the highest unemployment rate among area counties at 6.3 percent while Nemaha County had the lowest at 2.5 percent.
Elsewhere, Brown County's jobless rate in September was 3.7 percent; Doniphan, 4.1 percent; Jackson, 3.3 percent; Jefferson, 3.6 percent; Leavenworth, 4.1 percent; Marshall, 3.1 percent and Pottawatomie, 2.5 percent.
All the figures were down from August, but up from September 2015.
Statewide, the unemployment rate in September was 4.4 percent. That's up from 4.3 percent in August and 4 percent in September 2015.
