Jeff County Sheriff Says Two Fatal Crashes in Close Proximity Likely a Chance Occurrence

Jefferson County Sheriff Jeff Herrig

Jefferson County’s Sheriff says two fatal accidents three tenths of a mile apart from each other within 72 hours was likely a coincidence.

The accidents that took the lives of 42 year old Oskaloosa resident Marty Warriner Monday and 54 year old Perry resident Donald Vandyke both occurred within the 175 mile marker on U-S Highway 59 three miles south of Oskaloosa.

Sheriff Jeff Herrig says this area has seen its share of tragedy in the past.

Herrig Accident RT: :07 OC: "…this last one."

Herrig says both accidents occurred well beyond curves on the roadway on 59, almost ruling out geography as a possible cause.

The curves were once sharp curves before recent road construction modified them to sweeping curves.
