A two-vehicle accident in Johnson County, Kansas early Tuesday morning claimed the life of a Hiawatha man and his passenger.
The Kansas Highway Patrol says 32-year-old Jason Richard Mees was traveling on Interstate-35 when his car left the roadway for an unknown reason.
The vehicle then entered back onto the roadway and began to roll.
Mees and a passenger, 32-year-old Jennifer Curbow of Edgerton, were ejected from the vehicle. The vehicle came to rest in the roadway.
The patrol says a southbound van driven by a Gardner, Kansas woman struck Mees’ vehicle before striking Mees , who was laying in the roadway.
Mees and Curbow were pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the van was not hurt.
The accident was reported shortly after 1:30 Tuesday morning at Gardner.
