Santa Fe Trail @ Nemaha Valley

Girls’ Varsity: Shelby Dahl (Santa Fe Trail) 10 points

In what was a close game, the Santa Fe Trail Chargers used a balance scoring attack to notch a six-point road victory over the Nemaha Valley Raiders, 51-45. It was a six point lead that half for the Chargers, but it was cut to three to start the fourth and the game was tied multiple times in the fourth quarter, with the Raiders taking the lead momentarily by one-point in the fourth quarter.

Santa Fe Trail finished the game with only one player in double figures and that was sophomore forward, Shelby Dahl, but had six other players score in the game with all but one of those players netting four more points. Nemaha Valley had balanced scoring as well with seven different players scoring for them, as well in the contest. Senior guard/forward, McKayla Brezina lead the way with 15 points for the Raiders in the loss.

Santa Fe Trail improved to 12-3 on the season with the win; while Nemaha Valley fell to 9-6 with the loss.

Boys’ Varsity: David Olberding (Nemaha Valley) 13 points

Unlike the girl’s varsity game the boy’s action favored one team early, that being the Nemaha Valley Raiders and they used that to cruise to their thirteenth win of the season, downing the Santa Fe Trail Chargers, 66-34. The Raiders used a huge run to close out the first quarter and lead it 24-6 at the end of the first. The entire first half was in favor of the Raiders in multiple facets as they went 4-4 from three-point land and 11-11 from the charity strip and lead it 39-15 at the half over the Chargers.

Balanced scoring was the theme night as the Nemaha Valley boy’s continued that with seven different players scoring in the contest. Three Raiders finished the night in double figures with senior, Alex Hermesch leading the way with 17 points (scoring 13 of those in the first quarter) and senior, David Olberding and junior, Creighton Brinker scored 13 and 12, respectively. As a team Nemaha Valley finished the night 16-17 from the free throw line and 4-8 from three-point land. Leading the way for the Santa Fe Trail Chargers was senior, Alex Dahl who finished the evening with 16 points in the loss.

The Raiders improved to 13-2 on the season with the win; while Santa Fe Trail fell to 6-9 with loss.
