The Nebraska State Wrestling Tournament gets underway this morning in Omaha. Area athletes from Falls City, Auburn and HTRS/Pawnee City will be competing in classes B and C. First round matches begin at 9:30.
Falls City senior Tate Hayes 16-13 on the season takes on Jake Walker a sophomore for Omaha Skutt, who is 31-15 on the season in round one.
At 138 pounds Auburn senior Calvin Bishop, 28-4 on the season takes on Nick Hines, a 25-9 freshman from Skutt.
At 182 pounds, the Tigers Cole Ackerman, 27-4 on the season, who picked up a 5th place medal last year at state takes on Martin Rascon from Cozad, a junior that is 12-12 on the season.
Auburn junior, Alec Dunn 29-5 on the season takes on Thomas Jacobs from Gering, a senior that was 17-6 during the season.
In Class C HTRS/ Pawnee City senior Lucas Snethen, 34-4 takes on Centennial junior Lucas Gruber who is 28-7.
The Titans T.J. Standerford who won a 6th place medal last year is 31-2 during his senior season. Standerford will take on 28-12 Caleb Akins, a junior from West Holt.
You will be able to hear reports today through Saturday from the Nebraska State Wrestling tournament.
Quarterfinal round matches will follow the first round matches today.
Consolation matches will begin Friday at 9:30 a-m with semifinals and third round consolation matches at 5 p-m Friday.
Consolation semifinals begin at 9 a-m Saturday with the 3rd and 5th place matches to follow. The title matches will begin at 2 p-m Saturday.
