Auburn Street Project Moves Forward
03/13/2012

A long-anticipated street improvement project in Auburn is one step closer to getting underway.  The City Council Monday evening authorized the city’s engineer, Evan Wickersham of JEO Consulting, to get bids for the project.
Mayor Scott Kudrna explains that the project calls for resurfacing approximately 18 blocks of city streets, primarily along K Street.  (play audio  :50)
In other business Monday, the Auburn City Council approved an agreement with Zeilinger (zeh-lin-jer) Keno.  The agreement includes approval of American Legion Post 23 as a satellite Keno location.
The Council approved two CDBG Commercial Rehab funding requests as suggested by the Revitalization Review Committee.  The two projects, totaling $21,710, will allow two downtown businesses – 19th Street Bakery and Flower Country and Gifts – to make improvements to their buildings.
Mayor Kudrna says Auburn is also pursuing CDBG Owner-Occupied Housing Rehab Grant funding.  That will help homeowners get grant funding to make repairs to their homes.  (play audio  :45)
To increase the chance of Auburn getting the grant, Mayor Kudrna says interested homeowners should visit the city’s website and fill out a questionnaire to demonstrate the need for the grant.
