Falls City Ballpark Project Updated
03/21/2012

Falls City Ballpark Improvement Committee Members Brian Poppe and Kevin Malone met with the City Council Monday night to update them on a curveball sent their way by Turf Solutions, the company hired to design and rebuild the baseball and softball fields in Falls City.
There is no problems with the project,  but rather possibly an opportunity to upgrade the ball field at Grandview Park,  starting possibly as early as the first week in April.  Poppe provided background information.  ( play audio  :51 seconds )
Poppe explained some of the possibilities if the Cookie League and Small Girls League games need to be moved from Grandview Park this year.  ( play audio  :36 seconds )
Poppe also said doing Grandview early, might allow the Falls City softball games to be played at Grandview beginning in August.  ( play audio  :32 seconds )
While the Ballpark Improvement Committee has always planned to make improvements to the ballfield at Grandview Park,  they were not planning to spend $145,000 which is what the plans from Turf Solutions call for.  Poppe and Kevin Malone said they were thinking more along the lines of $75,000.  Malone said without some cutbacks, the committee would not be able to provide that kind of funding for Grandview at this time.  ( play audio  1:08 )
The Council approved moving forward with improvements at Grandview if the Committee is able to come up with changes that allow it to be affordable.
