Merchant, a Republican, filed today ( Wednesday ) for a second 4-year term, and says his focus, if reelected, will remain on child safety, and keeping all residents aware of ways from falling victim to potential dangers(Play Audio :25 seconds)
Merchant has served as sheriff since March 24, 2008 when he was appointed by the Brown County Republican Precinct Committee to fill the position left vacant by the resignation of Sheriff Lamar Shoemaker.
He then won election that November to a four-year term.
