The Seneca City Council Wednesday evening approved the renewal of the city's property, liability, auto, and workers compensation insurance policy, effective April 1st.
SBS Insurance agent Jim Ronnebaum said the renewal rate will be about $5,000 higher, with an annual cost of $102,835. Ronnebaum said most of the increase is due to an increase in workers compensation premiums.
In a related matter, the council discussed a requirement the city’s gun range be fenced, gated and locked., with the range rules posted due to liability reasons.
Liability coverage for the gun range will cost the city an additional just over $600.
The issue was tabled until more information could be gathered.
In other business, the council granted City Superintendent Brian Ruske approval to move forward with seeking bids for the replacement of 32 blocks of the curb and gutters.
Ruske said $60,000 has been budgeted for the work, and he will reduce the number of blocks to stay under budget, if needed.
Local resident Kevin Kramer came before the council to discuss details of a tractor pull that is planned for June 10th on the city’s property on the south end of Community Drive.
Kramer asked for permission to use the property and install removable guard rails for the pull.
The council offered the use of the city’s bleachers for the event, and voted to allow the tractor pull to be held on the property.
The council intends to pass a resolution at their next meeting allowing drinking of alcohol on the property for the event.
Proceeds from the event will go to the booster clubs of Nemaha Valley and B&B High Schools. The funds will also pay for various school supplies.
