The Falls City High School girls and boys track teams both finished 6th Saturday at the Ashland-Greenwood Rotary Invite in Ashland.
Syracuse was the top girls team, finishing with 173 points to easily outdistance Gretna, which placed second with 126 points. Lincoln Christian was 3rd, followed by Ashland-Greenwood, Tekamah-Herman, and Falls City.
Falls City’s top finishes were 5th place showings by Claire Poppe in the 100 and 300 meter hurdles, Brooke Scheitel in the 800-meter run, Hailey Baxter in the shot put, and Jacy Lewis in the triple jump. Falls City also was 5th in both the 400 and 1600-meter relays.
Ashland-Greenwood won a close team race in the boys’ portion of the meet, with a total of 123 points. Gretna was second with 118 points, with Syracuse 3rd with 111. Lincoln Christian, Tekamah-Herman, and Falls City rounded out the team standings. Falls City totaled 43 points.
The Tigers’ top individual finish was second place by Cord Huettner in the shot put. Falls City also got 3rd place finishes from Zach Jordening in the high jump and Jordy Stoller in the long jump. Matt McCann placed 4th in both the long jump and triple jump, while Huettner added to his second place finish in the shot put with a 4th place finish in the 200-meter dash.
