Permanent Pothole Repairs For Hiawatha
03/26/2012

Pothole season arrives, and, already prepared for the battle against the roadway hazard, is the City of Hiawatha.
A constant struggle encountered by municipalities throughout the region is finding a method to make pothole repairs last, with many methods proving to be short term, at best.
Hiawatha Public Works Director Dave Grimm has been proactive in his readiness and the method to be used this season in order to make the pothole patches permanent(Play Audio :21 seconds)
Grimm says the repair effort will continue throughout the city, with an extensive process required to do the work correctly(Play Audio :23 seconds)
Grimm says the effort began when the supplier of the high grade material provided the city with a sample; and, following an evaluation of the early results, the actual purchase was made(Play Audio :22 seconds)
Despite the high cost of the permanent repair mix, Grimm says savings will be found for the taxpayer in the long run, as the cost of labor alone will be greatly reduced through use of the material.
