The Brown County Treasurer’s office will join other treasurer’s offices across the state in converting to a new web based motor vehicle title and registration system later this spring.
County Treasurer Cheryl Lippold told county commissioners today( Monday ) that the new system will go live beginning May 1st.
Lippold says the Kansas Department of Revenue plans to test the new system next Thursday morning, April 5th, from eight to nine, and the treasurer’s office will be closed to the public during that time.
Implementation of the new system will take place May 1st through the 8th.
During that week, Lippold says the treasurer’s office will not be able to process any motor vehicle transactions.  However, she says they will be able to accept tax payments.
Following a closed-door session, the commission approved the hiring of Steve Winter of Hiawatha for a part-time data collector position in the county appraiser’s office.
Winter was among three candidates interviewed for the position.
