It was a short night for the Falls City, City Council on Monday. Fourth Ward Councilman Brad Campbell asked prior to approving the agenda that his resignation be removed from the agenda. Campbell has purchased a house outside of the fourth ward and he will be moving at some point this spring.
In other business the Council approved resolutions to levy a special assessment against real estate property in three locations. City Administrator Gary Jorn explained. ( play audio :13 seconds )
The properties are located at 1604 Morton, 1201 McLean and 1407 Fulton Street. The cost to the City to raze the buildings was $15,475.
Council members also approved an ordinance concerning bidding procedures and voted on first reading to appeal an ordinance concerning the installation of fuel and gas piping.
The Council also approved hiring eight part-time workers this summer. Two for the cemetery, and two each in the electrical, gas and water departments. The part-time employees will be paid $9 per hour. After approving the agenda item the Council approved a motion by Councilman Steve Scholl to extend the days for one of the cemetery part-time employees from the original time of May 1 to May 31st to working from May 1st to July 31st.
Contracts with Southeast Nebraska Development District for management services for $25,000 for lead paint hazard screening and clearance exams and $12,000 for Community Development Block Grants were also approved.
