The Nemaha County Commission has received a request from Nemaha County Home Health and Hospice for funding from the Broxterman Estate. Patty Remmers and Shawn Weldin with the organization met with commissioners Monday to inquire if they had made any decisions concerning how they intend to utilize funds left to the county by the Henrietta and Leonard Broxterman Estate for home health. Remmers told commissioners their organization has some immediate needs they would like the county to help with, if possible. She said they are requesting funds from the Broxterman Estate for the purchase of software and equipment for organization at a cost of $25,385. Following discussion, the commission said they would consider the request and let Remmers know what they decide. In other business, representatives of Northeast Kansas Environmental Services met with commission. Dennis Foster reviewed with commissioners the services completed in Nemaha County last year. He introduced Phil Mentgen, who was recently hired as an environmental health specialist by Northeast Kansas Environmental Services. Foster said they really appreciate the county’s financial support for their organization over the past several years, and requested $10,000 in funding for 2012 as well. The commission took no action. And bids were opened for a new mini-van for the county. Bids were received from two companies—Nemaha Valley Motors and Honeyman Ford, both of Seneca. Following discussion, the commission approved the purchase of a 2012 Dodge Grand Caravan Crew from Nemaha Valley Motors for $22,000 with the trade-in of a 2004 Ford Freestar.
