Finishing touches are being put on the 16 new townhome duplexes located at 31st and Barada Streets in Falls City. Some of the people that will move in have already signed agreements and will be moving in very soon.
The Wilderness Falls development is owned by Excel Development Group and is a $3-million dollar investment in Falls City. Of that amount, approximately half a million dollars went to local contractors.
There are 14 duplex units with two bed rooms and two three-bedroom units. Amenities include all appliances, mini-blinds, an attached garage, a washer and dryer and walk-in shower with safety bars.
Excel Corporation utilized low income housing tax credits, HOME Funds from the department of Economic Development, contributions from Falls City EDGE and Midwest Housing Initiatives to build the development.
While residents are ready to start moving in, Beckie Cromer with EDGE says a ribbon-cutting event is planned for May 29th. ( play audio :27 seconds)
More than 60 pre-applications for the housing went out to perspective residents. There will only be 16 homes available at least for now. Cromer says that if you are interested you may still fill out an application. ( play audio :32 seconds )
With so much interest, there is hope that a second phase of homes can be built in the future and possibly some market-value homes. Cromer says due to rules and regulations, it will take a while before another phase can move forward. ( play audio :34 seconds )
