A few weeks ago during the large outbreak of storms and tornados throughout the Midwest, you heard new terminology being used when discussing preparations by the National Weather Service and various media outlets.
The most notable one was calling the cluster of storms “life threatening,” something that the NWS had never used before.

That’s Mike Hudson, meteorologist at the National Weather Service office in Kansas City.

Hudson says the phrases are meant to not scare, but inform of the serious situation, such as the storm on April 14.
He says they have been gathering feedback from various sources this week on how others responded.

Hudson says while the instances to use this terminology are rare, those are the days extra preparation must be taken by the public.
