Johnson-Brock senior Kale Wolken turned in a record-setting day at the Freeman Invitational Track Meet Tuesday at Doane College. Wolken set three meet records and won three individual events.
His meet record of 39.2 seconds in the 300-meter intermediated hurdles is the fastest in the state this spring regardless of class. Wolken also set a record of 22.5 seconds in the preliminaries of the 200-meter dash, but he finished 7th in the finals of that event. He also won the long jump with a meet record of 22-feet, 5-and-a-quarter inches, and the 100-meter dash.
Freeman won the boys’ team title with 116.4 points. Tri-County was second with 103, and Sterling was 3rd with 78 points. Elmwood-Murdock was 4th, with Parkview Christian 5th, Johnson-Brock 6th with 41 team points, Johnson County Central 7th, with Friend, Lewiston, Deshler, and Diller-Odell rounding out the team standings.
Freeman athletes set three meet records Tuesday. Derek Zimmerman set a meet record of 45-feet, one-half inch in the triple jump; Cole Schuster won the 110 high hurdles in a meet record time 14.9-seconds; and Freeman also set a record in winning the 3200-meter relay.
Tri-County won the girls’ team title with 108 points; Freeman had 104.5 points for second place; Friend was a distant 3rd with 68 points; followed by Elmwood-Murdock, Sterling, Johnson County Central, Diller-Odell, Deshler, Johnson-Brock, and Parkview Christian.
Sydney Holtmeier won three individual events to lead Tri-County to the girls’ team title.
