A 34-year-old Saint Joseph man awaits sentencing after pleading no contest to a count of burglary as part of a plea deal Thursday in Atchison County Court.
In exchange, Scott Parker had misdemeanor counts of theft and criminal damage to property dismissed.
A warrant was out on Parker for over five months after Atchison Police determined Parker broke into and took a motor vehicle from the 600 block of North 3rd on October 5th.
He was finally discovered in Johnson County and brought back to Atchison for charges in early March.
They were able to recover the vehicle within days after the burglary.
Police were investigating Parker being allegedly involved in a rash of other vehicle burglaries and thefts during that time, but evidence didn’t support the allegations enough to file charges.
Another man allegedly involved in the burglary, James Bonar, is currently in Buchanan County jail on other charges, awaiting extradition to Atchison County.
Parker once posted a 10 thousand dollar bond, but failed to appear one time during the court process, so his warrant became 20 thousand dollars, and was subsequently picked up.
He has been in Atchison County jail since.
Sentencing is scheduled for June 4th.
