Steve Lukert is ready to return to the Statehouse in Topeka, with restoring moderation to Kansas government a key to his decision to run for the State's First District Sentate seat.

The Sabetha Democrat filed June 8th for the race that already contained two Republican candidates, incumbent Dennis Pyle, of rural Hiawatha, and Marje Cochren, of Whiting.

Lukert previously served five years in the Kansas House of Representatives, representing the 62nd District(Play Audio)

Among those three issues of concern for Lukert is what he sees as extremism within state government(Play Audio)

Education is also among Lukert's chief priorities(Play Audio)

Additionally, Lukert looks for methods to keep property tax from increasing, saying state budget cuts may sound good, but when taxes are cut at that level, the burden falls on the property owner(Play Audio)

Lukert will face either Pyle or Cochren in his bid for the First Sentate District,  depending on the outcome of the August 7th Republican Primary Election.

Lukert is a semi-retired 4th generation Brown County Farmer, who also taught government in the Holton and Sabetha school districts for 32 years.

He and wife, Linda, have been married for 33 years.
