City Commissioners Annex Two Residences into Atchison
06/19/2012

Atchison City Commissioners on Monday night approved annexing two residences and two other tracts of land in south Atchison into the city.

They approved the measures four to zero with Commissioner Jack Bower absent.

After a stalemate from property owners, the city offered a negotiation Saturday for the concerned residents affected.

Special Counsel for the City Pat Henderson says it’s similar to the agreement reached when annexing the Westridge subdivision.

However, one of the property owners affected, Linda Bowen says she reluctantly signed the agreement.

Commissioner Rita Hartman asked why the owners were given such short notice.

Henderson said they were given proper notice but didn’t get negotiations going with their counsel until late in the process.

Commissioners also heard a pitch from DOVES Board Chairman John Settich (Set-ick) in a public forum at the beginning of the meeting, asking for an appropriation from the city.

No immediate feedback was given after the presentation.
