Missouri Man Sentenced for Hamburg Iowa Bank Robbery
01/30/2014

(AP) - A Missouri man has been given 77 months in federal prison for robbing a bank in southwest Iowa.

Federal prosecutors say 48-year-old Nathan Smith was sentenced Tuesday in U.S. District Court in Council Bluffs. Smith had been convicted in October of robbing a Great Western Bank branch in Hamburg in June 2012.

Prosecutors say Smith gave a teller a plastic bag and demanded that it be filled with money. Then the Lexington, Mo., man ran from the bank.

Smith was arrested the same day in Buckner, Mo., which is about 125 miles southeast. Authorities say his vehicle matched the description of the bank robber's get-away vehicle.
