(KAIR)--Kansas Secretary of State Kris Kobach is predicting a high turnout for the August 5th primary election.
In a statement released by his office Thursday, Kobach says that he believes that 22% of all registered voters in the state will cast a vote in the election, either in advance or at the polls. That is nearly 382,000 votes cast by the approximately 1,750,000 Kansans who are registered to vote.
Not all registered voters are eligible to vote in the primary. It is only open to voters who affiliated with the Republican party, the Democratic party, or no party when they registered to vote. Voters affiliated with other parties, such as the Libertarian party, do not participate in primary elections.
Unaffiliated registered voters may vote on a Republican or Democratic ballot on election day by first filling out a new registration form at the polling place to affiliate with the party of their choice.
