(KAIR)--A temporary all way stop configuration at the intersection of Fourth Street and Park Street in Atchison has been made permanent.
Officials decided to test the new configuration in July, and City Public Works and Utilities Director Justin Pregont says that people were just blowing past the stop signs. So some minor modifications were made to the advance warning signs and flags were added to provide additional warning. After these changes were made, Pregont says it did not take long for people to get used to the new configuration.
Pregont adds that the results from the test have been generally positive, which lead to the decision to make it permanent.
City Commissioners voted 4-1 to approve the new configuration during their meeting Monday afternoon. Commissioner Larry Purcell cast the lone no vote.
