(KLZA)-- The Pawnee City, City Council met this week. Mayor Deb Klein discussed with the Council the possibility of setting up a Pool Renovation Fund through the Pawnee City Community Foundation, a “501(c)(3)” organization, where donations can be accepted for the Pawnee City Pool.
With the “501(c) (3)” designation, donations made to the organization are tax exempt.
Last year the possibility of a pool liner was discussed as a way to resurface the floor and walls of the pool. At that time the cost was approximately $100,000. The Council was in favor of Mayor Klein visiting with Bob Miller and the Pawnee City Community Foundation to begin accepting donations for this specific project.
Mayor Klein is also planning on attending the next meeting of the Pawnee County Commissioners, seeking financial assistance with the City’s recycling program. She intended to ask the Commissioners to help fund the City Recycling Program through Recycling Enterprises of Nebraska.
In other business the Council approved the hiring of Amber Lewis as the 2015 Pool Manager and Ashley Laflin and Melissa Dorsch as Assistant Pool Managers. Lifeguard interviews will begin March 30th.
Council heard an update on the Gaston Nuisance Property at 1138 G Street from Shop Foreman Clint Johnson. He reported the owners of the property have been cleaning up the property themselves, having already filled one dumpster with items removed from the house and yard. Another dumpster will be placed at the property soon.
A quote for diving services and tank inspection for the Pawnee City water tower was also reviewed. Inland Potable Services quoted a price of $1,800, which is half the normal amount due to work already scheduled in the area. The company is willing to carry the proposed amount over into the Pawnee City 2015-16 Fiscal Year.
The Council also approved a number of ordinances proposed by the Nebraska League of Municipalities. The Council also approved a proclamation declaring April 12 – 18 as National Library Week.
