(KAIR)--A public health warning for a local lake remains in place due to high levels of toxic blue-green algae.

The Kansas Department of Health and Environment last week listed the Atchison County Lake as one of three lakes in the state named to warning status.

On Thursday, KDHE said the local lake, along with the two others, continue to be affected by the algae.

State health officials say direct contact with the water is strongly discouraged for people, pets and livestock

Fish can be eaten as long as they are rinsed with clean water.  Only the fillet portion should be consumed and all other parts discarded.
