KS Seatbelt Fines Increase Saturday
06/29/2017

(KAIR)--AAA Kansas is sending a reminder: buckle up or pay triple the fine. That comes as a new Kansas law goes into effect Saturday.

According to a release from AAA Kansas, Senate Bill 89 means that a person 18 or over, who's not buckled up while inside a moving vehicle, will pay a fine of $30. The revenue generated through the increase will be administered by the Secretary of Transportation and fund an expansion of the student-driven Seatbelts Are For Everyone program, making it available to every high school in Kansas.

AAA spokesman Shawn Steward says the organization “strongly supports this new law, in hopes that the higher fines will provide more of a deterrent to not wearing seatbelts.”

According to AAA, 435 people died in motor vehicle crashes, in Kansas last year, making it one of the top ten causes of unintentional death in the state and the number one killer of teens.

According to the Kansas Department of Transportation, more than seven out of 10, on average, of all people killed or seriously injured in Kansas crashes are unrestrained.

No government was EVER given the authority to protect any individual from their own choice. A CRIME, malum prohibitum, only occurs when one encroaches upon the rights or property of another. A I dont like it crime, malum prohibitum, occurs whenever a small group of people decide to make an action or inaction illegal because they dont like that action or inaction even though the action or inaction does NOT encroach upon the rights or property of another. The ONLY duty the government has to protect is when they are protecting the rights or property of an individual. I will NEVER pay a BS seat belt violation ticket in the States claim that they are only trying to protect me.

My apologies for typing while my brain was only semi engaged. I meant to type... A CRIME, malum in se, only occurs when one encroaches upon the rights or property of another._____ There is a huge difference between a malum in se crime and a malum prohibitum crime. The biggest distinction is a malum in se crime would be a crime against the rights or property of another regardless of whether or not there was a law against the act. A malum prohibitum crime is based upon an action or inaction that would be legal for a person to choose to do if not for the malum prohibitum law because the action or inaction does not encroach upon the rights or property of another.____ I hope Ive communicated better in this post.
