Atchison Woman Refuses Probationary Rehab for Prison
01/09/2012

An Atchison woman chooses prison time instead of participating in a probationary rehab program Friday in Atchison County Court.

Billie Royer will now serve 15 months in the Kansas Department of Corrections on a felony cocaine possession charge that occurred last year.

County Attorney Gerald Kuckelman recommended to the courts an 18 month probation term that included an extensive rehab program under Kansas Senate Bill 123 that was passed a few years ago.

Judge Martin Asher asked Royer several times if she was sure she wanted to take the probation and rehab instead of the prison alternative, but she refused each time.

Royer will have one year of supervised probation upon her release.
