Pawnee City Man Arrested For Theft From Uncle

The Nebraska State Patrol reports that a Pawnee City man is in jail charged with stealing hundreds of thousands of dollars from his elderly uncle.
A five-month long investigation by the Nebraska State Patrol has led to the arrest of Lewis D. Rakosnik,  55, Pawnee City on felony charges of knowing and intentional abuse of a vulnerable adult.  The investigation revealed over a period of 11-months Rakosnik liquidated more than $600,000 of his uncle’s assets.
In February 2011, Rakosnik was contacted by a friend of his uncle’s and asked to care for the elderly gentleman who was ill. In March 2011, Rakosnik moved into his uncle’s Pawnee City home and was given durable power of attorney. The investigation revealed during that time, he sold land, cashed out CD’s and transferred money from this uncle’s bank account.
Rakosnik was taken into custody without incident Tuesday, Jan 31, 2012 at his uncle’s home in Pawnee City. He was lodged in the Johnson County Jail.
