Kickapoo Tribe Presents Economic Impact Report

Kickapoo Tribal Chairman Steve Cadue is proud of the contribution the tribe provides to northeast Kansas—especially Brown County.
Cadue and three members of the Kickapoo Tribal Council presented a report on the tribe’s economic impact to the Brown County Commission today ( Monday ).
According to the report, the tribe spent $2.6 million at local businesses in the Brown County area in 2011, and $6.6 million within a 100 mile radius of the reservation last year.
The report notes the tribe paid more than $9.6 million in salaries and wages to 355 employees living in the Brown County area last year.
In addition, the tribe provided a number of donations to area organizations last year.   
Cadue said while the Golden Eagle Casino is the tribe’s bread and butter, they are working to diversify.  He says the tribe believes they can use the casino as a spring board to get other economic development.
Cadue said he order to spur economic development in the area, the tribe is working on organizing an economic summit...( play audio )
Cadue said the governor’s office has indicated they will take part in economic summit, which he anticipates will take place around May 1st.
