Progress Continues on Amelia Earhart Bridge
02/09/2012

The arch for the Amelia Earhart Bridge near Atchison continues to grow.

Recently, the second piece of the arch was installed.

According to Kansas Department of Transportation Spokesperson Kimberly Qualls, the project is still moving along as scheduled.

She says crews are installing pieces as they receive them, but due to the large amounts of bolts to fasten and inspect, installation of each piece takes longer than perceived.

The project is currently the only one in the state where you can view the progress in 15 minute intervals via a web cam positioned southwest of the bridge.

To view the progress of the bridge you can go to http://www.earthcam.com/clients/kansasDOT/.

Close up image of the project can be seen on the region’s facebook page http://www.facebook.com/NEKansasKDOT.

The bridge is expected to be completed, weather permitting in the latter part of 2012.
