Girl's Varsity: Kelsey Henry (Wetmore) 13points
It was a gritty game between the Wetmore Cardinals and the Frankfort Wildcats that went down to the fourth quarter and saw both teams exchanges leads throughout the contest. After a three-point lead was in favor of Wetmore at the end of the first quarter, it was Frankfort who to the advantage going into halftime leading by five-points (33-28 at the half). Wetmore made a push in the third quarter but Frankfort still grasped onto a one-point lead going into the fourth, were the Cardinals outscored the Wildcats 12-6 and notched their sixteenth win of the season by a score of 54-49.
It was a game that saw double figure scoring from three different players for each squad. The Wildcats were lead by junior guard, Jessa Jones who tallied 16 points on the evening, while her teammates senior forward, Mykaela Smart and junior forward, Josie Hale each scored 10 on the evening. The Cardinals saw seven players score in their comeback win, with senior, Nichole Boden leading the way with 14 points on the night. Senior forward, Kesley Henry finished with 13 points and junior point guard, Alyana Noe notched 11 points, also in the contest. Henry earned herself the player to bank on award for her relentless effort on the offensive boards, allowing her to get a lot of early put backs for her points in the game.
Wetmore extends their winning streak to seven games on the season, moving their record to 16-2 overall. Frankfort with the hard fought loss falls to 12-8 on the season. Both teams have already tied their win outputs of last season.
Boy's Varsity: Four Players (Frankfort)--Jacob Broxterman 21 points, Calahan Brown 15 points, Jonathan Keating 12 points and Lucas Adams 10 points
The girl's varsity game was a gritty matchup, hard fought battle between the Wetmore Cardinals and the Frankfort Wildcats; well the boy's game didn't disappoint, as well, going down to the fourth quarter, also. Frankfort jumped out to an earlier double figure lead in the first quarter and lead by nine at the end of the first. But Wetmore didn't go away, they started off the second quarter with a 9-0 run to tie the game and even took the lead at one in the second quarter; Frankfort was able to muscle themselves back into the lead before the half, but it was down to three points. The Wildcats outscoring the Cardinal by three in the third quarter stretched the lead up to six heading into the fourth, but Wetmore would have another run in them taking the lead in the fourth quarter. Ultimately down the stretch Frankfort ultilized their size in the post to stretch their lead and hit some free throws, to secure the 58-49 win at home.
Senior, Derek Henry was the spark for the offense that got Wetmore back into the game after they found themselves in a hole early. Henry scored seven of the nine points in the early second quarter run to tie the game up and he finished the night with a game-high 25 points. Frankfort got all of their scoring from four players, who all finished the night in double figures, earning them all the player to bank on awards for the boy's varsity game. It was really the play inside the paint that helped secure the victory for Frankfort in the contest. Senior center, Jacob Broxterman lead all Wildcats with 21 points on the night, while junior guard, Calahan Brown continued his scoring success this season with 15 points in the game. Senior forward, Jonathan Keating notched 12 points and sophomore guard, Lucas Adams finished with 10 point, also in the game.
Frankfort improved to 15-5 on the season with the win and extend their winning streak to seven games; while Wetmore fell to 2-16 on the season, but continued to showcase much improvement on the court.
