Nemaha County Corn & Soybean Disease Meeting
03/02/2012

Just about every year, a spot – or even an entire field – shows ‘symptoms’ of some type.  Knowing whether it’s a physical problem, environmental, nutrient, insect or disease is the first step.  Determining whether it is yield robbing and economical (or even POSSIBLE!!) to control is the next!

To address the disease part of that equation, we typically call on Dr. Doug Jardine, KSU Extension Plant Pathologist for a diagnosis of what we’re seeing in the field.  This year, we’ll tap his expertise ahead of planting for a Corn and Soybean Diseases Meeting to be held Monday, March 5, 2012 at the Nemaha County Community Building in Seneca (1500 Community Drive).  Show up any time after 9:30 a.m. and we’ll treat you to coffee and refreshments.  At 9:45, Dr. Jardine will begin to break down the numerous diseases we can see as corn and soybean producers – and which ones we should worry about.  Sudden Death Syndrome, aflatoxin, seedling diseases, and even nematodes in corn and soybeans will all be on the agenda.  We’ll take a couple of hours and have you out the door before noon.

No RSVP is necessary, but if you have a specific question for Dr. Jardine, contact me prior to March 1 and I’ll get questions sent his way.  You can reach me via e-mail at dhallaue@ksu.edu .  You can also submit questions via phone to the Seneca Office of the Meadowlark Extension District at 785-336-2184.  A flyer is available under the Crops & Soils link www.meadowlark.ksu.edu.
