Marjorie Fern McDaniel, 91, of Centralia, KS passed away August 14, 2014 at Sweet Life Brookdale Care Facility in Overland Park. She was born December 21, 1922 in Jay, OK the daughter of Herman O. and Lura Ethel (Whittle) George.

Marjorie farmed with her husband in the Centralia, Netawaka and Wetmore communities. She also worked for Slimaker Dress Factory in Holton and Onaga. She later worked for Golden Eagle Casino in Horton. Marjorie enjoyed making quilts and clothing for her family.

She was a past member of St. James Catholic Church in Wetmore and St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Corning. She was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary in Wetmore.  

Marjorie married Elmer McDaniel on May 29, 1941 in Holton. He preceded her in death in 1986. She was also preceded in death by her parents, a son, Lawrence Elmer McDaniel, Jr.; her granddaughter, Tina McDaniel; 2 sisters, Hazel Porter and Joan George and 3 brothers, Ross, Vernon and Ray George.

Survivors include 2 sons, Richard “Rick” McDaniel of Overland Park, KS and Robert McDaniel of Lawton, OK; a daughter, Betty Elks of Bellevue, NE; 4 sisters, Jean Davis of Spokane, WA, Ludema Scott of Harrodsburg, KY, Lucile Kirk of Sabetha, KS and Madene Fernkopf of Holton, KS; a brother, Dwane George of August, KS; 10 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandson.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, August 18, 2014 at St. James Catholic Church in Wetmore with burial to follow in the Wetmore Cemetery. Rosary will be recited 3:30 p.m. Sunday at the Mercer Funeral Home in Holton with visitation to follow. Memorials may be given to the Wetmore American Legion c/o Mercer Funeral Home, P.O.
