Garry R. Guy

Garry R. Guy, 68, of rural Robinson, died from injuries received from a fire at his home, Friday evening, January 9, 2015.

Garry was born at Sparks in Doniphan County, August 2, 1946, the son of Pleas and Ada Ayers Guy and had lived in the Doniphan-Brown County area his entire life.  His family lived at Sparks several years before moving to Robinson where he attended school.  Shortly after high school, Garry served in the U.S. Army for two years during the Vietnam Conflict.  After his war service, Garry returned to northeast Kansas to work for Union Pacific Railroad as a sectionman, retiring in February 1991, after 20 years of service.  His area included Brown/Doniphan County, parts of Nebraska, and a short time in the Perry area.  After retirement, he was dedicated to helping his family.  In recent years, Garry delivered the morning St. Joseph/Topeka newspaper in the Hiawatha area.

He married Velvet Willey in 1984 in Topeka.  She survives.

Also surviving are a daughter Grace Guy, two sons, Krys (Bea) Guy of Topeka, Colton Guy; a brother Kenneth (Elsie) Guy of Robinson; and a granddaughter Brylee.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister; and several brothers.

The family will receive friends at Chapel Oaks Funeral Home in Hiawatha from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday, January 17.  A Memorial Service will follow at 11.
