Bernadine "Bernie" Grace (Miller) Wright, 88, of Horton, Kansas, formerly of Purcell, went to be with her Lord on Wednesday, January 14, 2015 at the Tri-County Manor in Horton, Kansas. She was born on November 15, 1926 at Potter, Kansas the daughter of Peter and Clara (Shalz) Miller. After the family moved to Purcell in 1930 she attended school at St. Mary's School thru 8th grade and then became the main helper for her mom and twelve brothers and sisters. She later moved to Horton and was employed by Priebs Poultry in Horton and was the "Baker" in the kitchen at Horton High School for many years. She married Lewis Wright of Willis, Kansas in 1947. They moved to the family farm south of Horton, working side by side through the years and raising two sons. Lewis passed away on November 14, 1986. Bernie was a worker all her days. She moved into Horton in 1989. She drove for Road to Recovery for cancer patients to Topeka. Delivered meals on wheels. Bernie was a member of the St. Leo's Catholic Church, Altar Society, St. Leo's Friendship card club, Church Council, Horton Country Club, Elks Club, American Legion Auxiliary, Hospital Auxiliary and helped with bingo at the Tri-County Manor. Survivors include two sons, Robert (Cheryl) Wright and Edward (Susan) Wright all of Horton, Kansas; three grandchildren, Shane Wright, Wendy Martinez and Amy Wright; nine great grandchildren; two step great grandchildren; five great-great grandchildren; one brother, Leo Miller of Roundtop, Texas; one sister, Katherine "Kitty" Casseday of Riverside, California. She was preceded in death by parents, husband, seven brothers, Leonard, Sylvester, Gregory, Chuck, Gerald, Lewis and Ernest Miller and five sisters, Theresa Gronniger, Mary Rueb, Frieda Tyer, Dorothy Miller and Rosaline Miller. Funeral mass will be at 10:30 A.M. on Saturday, January 17, 2015 at the St. Leo's Catholic Church in Horton, Kansas. A rosary will be recited at 6:00 P.M. on Friday evening at the Dishon-Maple-Chaney Mortuary in Horton, Kansas where the family will greet friends following the rosary. Burial will be at the Horton Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the St. Leo's Catholic Church and may be sent in care of the mortuary.
